Science Dept to implement NMBA for bamboo made products

New Delhi, Aug 31 (UNI) The Department of Science and Technology is implementing the National Mission on Bamboo Applications (NMBA) to develop, validate and demonstrate technologies for value added products using bamboo as raw material, the Lok sabha was informed today.

The Minister of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Kapil Sibal in a written reply in the Lok Sabha said as part of this mission, gasifiers using bamboo as raw material have been developed for generation of electricity. These gasifiers can use bamboo waste and other biomass.

Mr Sibal said all the states in the northeast, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa where bamboo is available in plenty can use these gasifiers for generation of electricity.

He said by terms of reference, the NMBA is to develop, validate and demonstrate the technologies. The government has no plans to set up Power Generation Units in all the states. However, the states, if interested, can use the technology.
