Residents refuse to vacate old building, water supply cut off

Mumbai, Aug 31 (UNI) In a stringent action, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has disconnected water supply to a complex in Borivali here following the refusal of the residents to vacate the dilapidated building.

If the residents do not vacate the building, the BMC has threatened to disconnect the power supply also.

Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Pathak told reporters here today that the 31 families residing in the four-storied Jalaram Bhawan had been served eviction notices on several occasions, but the residents had not complied.

Assistant Municipal Commissioner S Shankarwar said that if the residents do not vacate the premises even after this action, the power supply will be disconnected. ''We may resort to the same action elsewhere also,'' Mr Pathak said.
