Promila Issar becomes Chief Secretary

Chandigarh, Aug 31 (UNI) The Haryana government today appointed Ms Promila Issar as the new Chief Secretary of the state.

Ms Issar, who was Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Revenue and Disaster Management), replaces Mr Prem Prashant who retired this evening.

She is the second woman to be appointed as Chief Secretary in Haryana. The first woman Chief Secretary Meenaxi Anand Chaudhary was also appointed by the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government.

After her appointment, Ms Issar said she would continue the good schemes initiated by her predecessors. She said she would try to further improve delivery of services and lay focus on policies relating to women and child development, health and education and infrastructure.

A post-graduate in English literature and M Phil in Public Administration, Ms Promilla Issar has worked as College Lecturer for two years.

She joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1972 and has worked on different posts in the state government in the departments of Education, Industries, Excise and Taxation, Home, General Administration, Industrial Training and Vocational Education, Wildlife Preservation, Labour and Employment.

She was on deputation to Government of India and worked as Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries for five years.

Ms Issar also held additional charge of Vice Chancellor of first women university of Northern India 'Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyala' at Khanpur Kalan in Sonepat district from August, 2006 to March, 2007.
