Srinagar, Aug 31 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today witnessed noisy scenes during Zero-hour after a member from the treasury bench alleged that illegal appointments were made in the cooperatives during the National Conference (NC) rule.

Ghulam Hassan Khan alleged that a nubmer of illegal appointments were made in different departments, particularly in the cooperatives, by the NC, now in the opposition.

He said the appointments made in the cooperatives by the present coalition government were valid and there was nothing wrong in the selection.

When some NC members objected to it, Mr Khan said '' Mr Rather (leader of the opposition in the house) you too have made appointments in the cooperatives.

However, Mr Rather said the NC had passed a law by which a person can hold the post of chairman of any cooperative for just one year, but here in the present case people are holding the post for years.

The opposition is playing dirty politics for votes, Mr Khan alleged and said the NC deceived people of the State on false slogans of plebiscite and autonomy.

On this a number of NC members were on their feet, shouting something which could not be heard in the din. There were charges and counter charges for about two minutes, before Deputy Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone called the name of another member to speak.

However, Mr Khan continued his speech and alleged that NC leaders looted crores of Rupees by indulging in corruption and other malpractices.

Chief Whip of the NC Mubarak Gul alleged that the information provided by the minister to his question about the condition of city roads was wrong.

The reply was misleading as majority roads in the city were in bad shape, he said.

Mr Lone, who was in the chair said this was a serious matter and will ask for proper answer from the minister.

Another member Mr Sharief Uddin Shariq alleged that government was not taking seriously the question hour.

''In the parliament a member gets written answer from the ministry for the question he or she asks within a week, but in this house no such thing happens,'' he said and appealed to Chief minister to introduce this in the state.
