NBW against ex-UP minister, 10 supporters

Varanasi, Aug 31 (UNI) A railway court in neighbouring Chandauli district today issued non-bailable warrants against former Uttar Pradesh minister Om Prakash Singh and 10 supporters in connection with a 2001 case of rail blockade.

The NBWs were issued against Mr Singh and his supporters, including Lallan Singh, Shamshad Khan, Rashid Khan, Markandey Singh, Nasim Khan, Dayanand Yadav, Ramashankar Gupta, Muslim Khan, Jamaluddin Khan and Surendra Gupta in connection with the case pertaining to rail blockade on August 9, 2001 near Dildarnagar railway station of Ghazipur district.

The Railway Magistrate at Mughalsarai railway station has fixed September 28 as the next date in the case.

Mr Singh, a former Samajwadi Party MP from Ghazipur and ex-MLA from Dildarnagar, had alongwith supporters blocked rail traffic between Patna and New Delhi, besides damaging railway property near Dildarnagar railway station between 1030 hrs and 1400 hrs on August nine, 2001 to protest killing of bandit queen-turned-SP MP Phoolan Devi.

Later, then station master of Dildarnagar railway station S R Tiwari had lodged a case against Mr Singh and 10 supporters under Section 174 of Railway Act with GRP Mughalsarai.
