Minority leader demands spl package for Mumbai riot victims

Mumbai, Aug 31 (UNI) Former Maharashtra Minister Mohd Arif Naseem Khan today urged the Prime Minister to announce a special package for the victims of 1992-93 Mumbai communal riots, in line with the Centre's package for the 1984-Delhi riot victims.

Mr Khan reiterated his demand in a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, on his arrival in the city last night.

Mr Khan, an MLA representing Kurla assembly constituency here, claimed that PM had assured him to look into the matter himself.

In his memorandum to the PM, Mr Khan recalled the compensation given to the members of Sikh community, the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi, and pointed out that most of the 1992-93 Mumbai communal riot victims belonged to the minority communtity and deserve a special package.
