Hassan, Karnataka, Aug 31 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today said that the state government will soon bring a new economic policy for farmers to improve their quality of life.

Speaking at a public function in his home town in connection with launching of development works he said that the new policy by JD(S)-BJP coalition government would boost the economic condition of the farmer, who was now in a virtual distress situation.

He appealed to the farmers not to resort to extreme steps like ending their lives anymore for not being able to repay the loans.

The Chief Minister expressed his unhappiness over Hassan district leading in the number of suicide cases by farmers in the state.

Mr Kumaraswamy said the government headed by him had made several achievements in just about 20 months what Congress could failed to achieve in 50 years. The Congress government had provided funds of Rs 22 crore for the welfare of minority communities while the coalition government had given Rs 120 crore for this purpose, he said.

To a question he said JD(S) has not taken any decision so far on whether to align with BJP in the coming urban local bodies elections.
