JJ Singh launches scheme for low cost houses for JCOs and ORs

Jaipur, Aug 31(UNI)The Army Welfare Housing Organisation(AWHO) has built up low cost houses for Army JCOs and other ranks(ORs) in Jaipur and decided to extend the scheme at various other stations, including Bhatinda, Pune, Belgaum, Allahabad, Guwahati and Secandarabad.

The first housing colony of this Jai Jawan Yojna having 84 dwelling units was today inaugurated by Army Chief General J J Singh in the Vidhyadharnagar locality in the proximity of the Army cantonment area here.

Gen Singh said this was his dream project aimed at providing low cost houses to the serving and retired junior ranked army personnel in the proximity of the army areas so that their families could have easy approach to various facilities being provided to them by the Army.

He said leadership in the government and the Army was taking due care for the welfare of army personnel and was taking various measures to enhance their facilities.

He said the Defence Ministry had already cleared a proposal for-issuance of two railway warrants in a year for those personnel who are deployed in anti insurgency operations, to undertake visits to their families.

The Ministry had also accorded approval to a proposal for effecting qualitative improvement in ration being supplied to the personnel.

Speaking on the occasion, AWHO Managing Director Major General Mohan Singh said the second phase of the new housing scheme Jai Jawan Yojna'' was already in progress in Jaipur itself.

This scheme is being extended in Pune, Belgaum, Bhatinda, Guwahati and Secundarabad.

Besides this, all the army command geadquarters had been asked to make efforts for acquiring land on subsidised rates from concerned state government for implementation of the scheme in various towns under their command.

Under the scheme, a 600 sq ft area house consisting of two bedrooms, a multipurpose room, a kitchen, a toilet and a seperate WC and a balcony is being provided to the allottees at cost of around Rs 5-6 lakh, Gen Singh added.
