Inflation eases to 3.94 per cent

The
inflation
rate
softened
to
3.94
per
cent
for
the
week
ended
August
18,
from
the
previous
week's
4.10
per
cent
on
account
of
decline
in
the
prices
of
some
manufactured
products.
The annual inflation rate was 5.12 per cent during the corresponding week last year, an official statement said here today.
The Reserve Bank of India yesterday had said the rate of inflation in the country remained higher compared to other emerging markets as also the advanced economies in 2006-07.
Earlier Finance Minister P Chidambaram has said the Government had succeeded in containing the rate of inflation to 4.05 per cent through various fiscal and monetary measures.
