India, Pak conclude two-day talks on Tulbul

New Delhi, Aug 31 (UNI) India and Pakistan have emphasised the need for an early and amicable resolution of the Tulbul Navigation Project in accordance with the provisions of the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960.

Officials of the two countries who met here for two days deliberations on the decade-old issue under the Composite Dialogue Process, agreed to continue discussions at technical-level, on mutually-acceptable dates.

Both sides said they looked forward to the next round of the talks with a view to resolve the issue at an early date.The delegations concluded their two-day discussion today.

While the Indian delegation was led by Mrs Gauri Chatterji, Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, the Pakistan side was headed by Mr Muhammad Ismail Qureshi, Secretary, Ministry of Water and Power.

''The talks were held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere,'' an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said adding that the two sides discussed their respective positions on the project and had a better appreciation of each other's views.

They reaffirmed their commitment to the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960.

The Pakistan delegation also called on Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz.
