HC upholds validity of sub-inspectors' final selection list

Allahabad, Aug 31 (UNI) Dealing with special appeal matters, the Allahabad High Court today upheld the validity of final selection list of all sub-inspectors in civil police/platoon commanders in Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) recruited in pursuance of a September 1, 2001 advertisement.

A division bench, comprising Justices S R Alam and Sunil Ambwani, passed the order on a special appeal made by selected candidates against the order of a single judge.

The single judge on April 24, 2007, had cancelled the final selection list and directed it to be redrawn after re-checking of the answer sheets.

Allowing the unsuccessful candidates a chance to look into the key answer sheets, the HC virtually allowed them fresh inning to compete in the selection.

The HC direction to hold fresh interviews virtually reopens the entire selection based only on assumptions and consequently, unsetting the entire process of selection. ''The procedure adopted by the single judge, his findings and directions cannot be sustained,'' the bench remarked.

The court further said it would be unjust on its part to get the marks of all the candidates, which includes almost 60,000 key answer sheets to be evaluated and to hold interviews afresh for which there was no complaint.
