Haryana to spend Rs 326 cr on Mewat canal

Chandigarh, Aug 31 (UNI) The Haryana government has chalked out an ambitious plan for construction of Mewat canal at a cost of Rs 326.40 crore to provide sufficient irrigation water to the backward areas of Mewat.

Stating this here yesterday, Irrigation Minister Ajay Singh Yadav said NABARD works costing Rs 145 crore had also been executed during the current financial year.

The Irrigation Department had already completed 57 schemes of extension of minors, construction of new minors and drains. Work on 55 such schemes was in progress.

Capt Yadav said a bio-drainage project for reclaiming the water logged areas of the state was also being taken up and the repair and rehabilitation work of lined watercourses was also being carried out.

As many as 6675 watercourses had been identified for lining and repair and rehabilitation work was also in progress in a phased manner.

He said the work of desilting of Ottu lake had been completed at a cost of Rs 17 crore. A sum of Rs 11.75 crore would be spent on renovation work of Jawahar Lal Nehru Lift Irrigation project.

Mr Yadav said that the government had also made an ambitious and comprehensive master plan for flood control costing Rs 200 crore and this project would be completed by the end of next year.
