Gohana incident:Five Haryana cops injured in stone pelting
Panchkula, Aug 31 (UNI) Five policemen including a DSP were injured this morning following stone pelting by a dalit mob demanding arrest of those responsible for the murder of dalit leader Rakesh Lara at Gohana.
According to police officials, the mob numbering about 200 from Rajiv Colony resorted to pelting stones when a police party led by DSP Abhay Rao did not allow them to proceeding towards the deputy commissioners office for submitting a memorandum. When the DSP insisted that he would take their charter of demands to the deputy commissioner, the mob began throwing stones at the policemen.
Mr Rao alongwith Sector-17 police station SHO, Inspector Balwant Rai, a Sub Inspector and three constables were injured in the incident. While the DSP and the SHO were discharged after first aid, the three constables were admitted at a local hospital.
To bring the situation under control the police fired shots in the air and then resorted to a lathi charge and even fired tear gas shells. The action by the cops forced the protestors to flee.
Panchkula SP Sandeep Kherwal described the situation as under control and said that action would be taken against the guilty.
