Four Coca cola AVM kiosks shut down after deficiencies found
New Delhi, Aug 31 (UNI) Minister of State for Railways R Velu today said four Automatic Vending Machines of a Coca Cola kiosk were closed down in Delhi Junction after an inspection team found several deficiencies in its functioning.
He said the kiosk was found selling unapproved brand of packaged drining water and unbranded and unpacked items. The rate list was not displayed, and the staff were not in uniforms and without identity cards, he stated in reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.
Also the stalls were using more than allocated space by stacking water bottles and cartons etc, he added.
The inspection was held on June 28 at the platform no. 4/6 of the Delhi Junction station.
In reply to another question, Mr Velu admitted that the State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission had pointed to the condition of platforms, coaches, sanitary conditions and the need to provide benches for the passengers to sit while waiting for the trains.
Giving details about measures undertaken by the Railway, he said round the clock inspection were made by medical officers. The platforms and stations were inspected by Chief Medical Superintendents, Divisional Railway Managers and other railway officers.
He said upgraded materials were now specified to improve the inside of the coaches. Mechanised enourte cleaning of nominated trains was also carried out during stoppages at ''Clean Train'' stations spread across the railway network.
