Fast track court sends two to jail for selling fake notes

Una, Aug 31 (UNI) A local court today convicted two accused under section 489 IPC for selling fake currency and sentenced them to imprisonment.

According to Deputy District Attorney Krishan Kumar, Mahender Pal Singh, resident of Tiwar village in Gurdaspur and Harpal Singh, resident of Sidhwan village of Gurdaspur were sentenced to undergo imprisonment of three and five years respectively.

A fine of rupees 5,000, was also imposed on the later failing which he will have to undergo an additional six months' imprisonment.

The Attorney said the two accused had purchased bread from a shopkeeper in Chintpurni on April, 3, 2007 and gave a 500 rupee note. The suspicious shopkeeper paid back the balance amount, but rushed to a nearby bank branch, which declared that the note was fake.

Immediately, the shopkeeper raised and alarm and traced the duo at another shop. The local police arrested the two accused and recovered six fake notes, of 500 and 1000 rupees denomination.
