DDA has constructed approx 10.5 lakh housing units: Maken
New Delhi, Aug 31 (UNI) The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has provided approximately 10.5 lakh housing units as part of planned development through various schemes, Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken informed the Lok Sabha today.
In addition, nearly 1 lakh units have been generated in the form of resettlement of slum clusters through the slum and JJ Wing of the MCD and DDA, the Minister said in a written reply.
Out of nearly 3 lakh dwelling units constructed by DDA, 1.83 lakh belong to low income group (LIG) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).
The houses constructed for LIG and EWS constitute nearly 60 per cent of the total units built by the DDA.
Mr Maken said the DDA has been making available housing stock by allotment of plots under the Rohini Residential Scheme, allotment of land to cooperative Societies as well as by allotment of built up flats.
About the Government's scheme to resettle slum dwellers in Delhi, the Minister said as per the policy, eligible people are allotted alternate plots.
Allotment of 18 sqmt plot is made to pre-1990 squatters and 12.5 sqmt plot to post-1990.
He said to prevent growth of slums in Delhi, the Master Plan stipulates provision of more than 50 per cent of total housing for urban through a mix of approaches and by adopting multi-pronged housing strategy.
