BSP holds protest, dharna against attack on businessman
Phagwara Aug 31 (UNI) Hundreds of activists belonging to Bahujan Samaj Party led by its state general secretary M P Singh Goraya held protests against attack on a businessman recently alleging .
The protesters sat on dharna before DSP Phillaur's office and blocked vehicular road traffic for three hours in protest against armed assailants who attempted to attack upon Baldev Singh, businessman hailing from village Kherra on Wednesday evening.
A protest rally was organised before DSP's office, which was addressed by several BSP leaders including M P Singh Goraya and Ram Saroop Saroya who openly alleged involvement of a SAD legislator's son in the incident.
Phillaur DSP Harpreet Singh Benepal told UNI that police has registered a case under section 307/148/149/341/427 IPC against two alleged attackers Parminder Singh Brar and Sumit Jain and their several others friends.
However, the demonstrators were demanding registration of a case against Damanbir, son of Chief Parliamentry Secretary Punjab Sarwan Singh Phillaur, who was once a partner of the victim.
According to the victim, Baldev Singh, he was returning from Chandigarh in his car when the assailants made an unsuccessful attempt to attack him. He managed to save his life by jumping into the office premises of Phillaur DSP, he said.
He said he was running a partnership buisines with Damanbir and had started construction of Star City Multiplex near Khajurala. The partnership went sour and they made a compromise deal to part ways.
According to the deal, Damanbir issued cheques of Rs 1.8 crore to Baldev Singh, but these cheques bounced, Baldev Singh alleged adding that when he pressed for the payment Damanbir hatched a conspiracy to eliminate him.
Damanbir has strongly denied these allegations and said he had made a compromise with his partners. He also denied any involvement in the attack upon Baldev Singh.
DSP Benepal said police was investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, a deputation led by MP Singh Goraya today met Jalandhar SSP Arpit Shukla and apprised him of the episode.
The SSP had assured them of justice, he said.
