Baba Amte discharged from hospital, taken to Warora
Nagpur, Aug 31 (UNI) Noted social worker and Magsaysay awardee Baba Amte was discharged today from the hospital where he was undergoing treatment since the last 15 days.
Mr Amte was immediately taken home by road to ''Anandwan'' in Warora in Chandrapur district of Vidarbha this afternoon.
His treatment, as per the advice of the doctors, would continue in Anandwan, for which necessary facilities have been created there, family sources said.
The 93-year-old Mr Amte was diagnosed last week as suffering from a type of blood cancer in which the body's capacity to resist infection decreases because of a reduction in the number of white blood corpuscles (WBCs) produced by the bone marrow. Mr Amte would need frequent blood and platelet transfusions as supportive measures, doctors have said.
Mr Amte was brought here from Warora in Chandrapur district on August 17 after his haemoglobin decreased to 6.8 (normal range 13 to 14) and platelets to 14,000 (normal range 1 lakh).
