Phagwara, Aug 31 (UNI) Police succeeded in tracing and rescuing an 11-month-old child within eight hours of his kidnapping from village Jagpaulpur in Phagwara sub-division today.

Phagwara DSP HPS Khakh said this evening that police had arrested the kidnapper Sanjay Kumar, a migrant labourer from Uttar Pradesh who took away the child Vikas, when he was sleeping with his father Sukh Ram and mother Kamlesh near the fields of their employer, farmer Avtar Singh, in the village early this morning.

DSP Khakh said that the accused, also an employee of Avtar Singh, had confessed to his crime and disclosed that he had lost his only son after illness many years ago and had remained issueless since.

The accused admitted that he wanted to give the abducted child to his wife, the DSP said. The police succeeded in nabbing the abductor near local railway station along with the abducted child, who has been handed over to his parents, he said.
