9 injured in clash

Puducherry, Aug 31 (UNI) Nine fishermen sustained minor injuries in a clash between two groups of fishermen.

According to police, fishermen from Kalapet in Puducherry and Koonimedu in Villupuram district had a clash yesterday in the sea over a dispute on fishing territory.

The Koonimedu fishermen alleged that their counterparts from Kalapet had trespassed into their territory for fishing, which led to the clash.

A boat belonging to the Koonimedu fishermen was damaged and was brought to Kalapet by the Puducherry fishermen.

A compromise meeting was held, in which the issue was sorted out and the boat was returned.
