3 convicted in fake currency case in Anand

Anand, Aug 31 (UNI) A local court today sentenced three persons to 5 years imprisonment in a fake currency case of last year.

Second fast track court Judge A S Verma found Dipesh Udeshi, Prakash V Patel and Vinu G Patel, all residents of Vasna in Borsad taluka of the district, guilty of the crime and awarded the sentence.

On the night of July 22, 2006, the Tiger squad and Vidhyanagar police raided a house on the Moghri road, from where they recovered 17 bundles of fake Rs 50 notes and another 17 bundles of fake Rs 100 notes and arrested the trio in this connection. They also seized a scanner, computer and other materials used in the making of notes from there, police said.

Later, three more persons were held in this connection, but the court released them for lack of evidence.

The two main culprits and mastermind behind the operation -- Narendra Patel and Iqbal of Mumbai -- are still at large, police added.
