West Bengal largest user of Homeopathy medicines

Kolkata, Aug 30 (UNI) West Bengal, the first Indian state to practice Homeopathy, is also the largest user of the medicines under this system of treatment.

Talking to mediapersons while launching its products, Schwabe India Pvt Ltd Managing Director Bodo Rasler claimed that people are shifting to Homoepathy as the medicines have no side effects.

''In Bengal, the ratio of Homeopathy to Allopathy users is 1:12,'' he said adding that about 50-60 per cent people are followers of this practice with 3-5 per cent as regular users.

The German-based company started its manufacturing unit at Noida with an initial investment of Rs 300 million. The annual turnover of the company is 500 million euro. This year the turnover was Rs 30 crore, he said.

With its presence in over 68 countries globally, including North America, France, India, Bangladesh and many south Asian countries, the company is planning to enter China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan in the next few years, Mr Rasler said.

'' We are going to set up a R&D centre to identify medicinal value of plants and extraction of the medicines from them,'' he said.

The company, which has 16,000 different products, would include 500 more mother tinctures, 1100 dilutions, 84 low attenutation trituration tablets and 28 biocombinations.

Schwabe India, which is the sole importer and exporter of the products, is the only one to have GMP certificate from the Centre and has more than 800 manufacturing units.
