Teachers in Punjab not to perform non-teaching duties

Chandigarh, Aug 30 (UNI) The Punjab Government would not depute the teaching faculty on non-teaching duties and an informatory website of the education department for effective communication with schools and teachers would soon be launched, said Education Minister Upinderjit Kaur here today.

The decision was made during a series of meetings with representatives of various teachers unions.

She clarified that the orders had already been circulated to all the field officers to not depute the teachers on non-teaching duties. The Chief Minister was keen to upgrade the education standards with view to generate more employment avenues for the youth in the state, she added.

She said that the education department would recruit 16,670 teachers soon, to revamp the education system and to impart quality education.

The promotion channels have also been set in motion for the teaching and non-teaching staff and departmental promotion committee meetings would be held on every the 25th or 26th day of every month, she said.

She further added that in order to address the issue of delayed salary payments, the state government had decided to provide fiscal powers to the school heads. Regarding pending inquiries, she assured that these would be sorted out by an expert panel at district levels within 90 days.

The Minister directed the officers to sanction all pending cases of reimbruement of medical bills.
