Suspected ISI agent held, fake currency seized

Mumbai, Aug 30 (UNI) A suspected ISI agent was arrested by city crime branch sleuths late last night from near Lucky Hotel at Bandra here and fake currency Indian amounting to Rs 148,500 was seized from his possession.

Investigating Officer Dilip Deshmukh said the Crime Branch Unit IX received information that one Suleman Ibrahim Sheikh alias Patel (29), resident of Dongri in south-central Mumbai, would be coming near the Lucky Hotel to distribute 279 fake Indian currency notes in the denomination of Rs 500 to his accomplices for circulating in the market.

At around 2115 hours, Suleman arrived at the spot and the informer identified him.

Mr Deshmukh said Suleman is a businessman at Dongri and allegedly has nexus with Pakistan's Inter Service Intelligence. During interrogation, Suleman has admitted that he had received the fake notes from his Pakistan-based accomplices, Mr Deshmukh claimed.

In this case, four more persons, including three Pakistan nationals, were wanted, he added.

Meanwhile, Suleman was produced before additional chief metropolitan magistrate S Y Shisode this afternoon who remanded him in police custody till September 10.
