Rs 7.61 Cr for reconstruction of 228 schools in Uri, J and K
Srinagar, Aug 30 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir government has spent Rs 7.61 crore on reconstruction of 228 schools, damaged in the devastating earthquake of October 8, 2005 in Uri tehsil of north Kashmir.
The government has also decided to provide Kitchen-Cum-Store facilities for Mid-Day meals in a better way in as many as 5,000 schools in the state.
An official spokesman said 228 damaged school buildings had been taken up for reconstruction in Uri tehsil at a cost of Rs 7.61 crore out of which Rs 4.62 crore was released.
He said 16000 students of the tehsil were being provided uniforms, shoes and sweaters and games material, for which Rs 1.43 crore was provided by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.
The school buildings were reconstructed by NGO Bharat J and K Scouts and Guides. The schools, which were damaged in earthquake, had been provided 11 computers.
He said for the purpose of mid-day meals, Rs 60,000 per school was being provided while additional Rs 5000 would also be released in favour of 5800 schools shortly for provision of new utensils for cooking purposes.
