Rajasthan HC bans sale of pan masala in plastic pouches

Jaipur, Aug 30 (UNI) The Rajasthan High Court has imposed a ban on the sale of pan masala and gutka, packed in pouches made of plastic materials.

The High Court has directed the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to conduct a probe on pouches in the next two months. According to the HC ruling, if plastic material is found in the pouches, then a penalty ranging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 12 lakh may be imposed on the pouch manufacturer.

The High Court bench, comprising Justice Shiv Kumar Sharma and Justice Guman Singh, gave the decision yesterday on a petition filed by Indian Asthama Care Society. The petitioner said pan masala makers are selling their product in plastic pouches. Since plastic doesn't get damaged for years on end, it is harmful for human and environment.
