Rabri condemns police brutality on youth in Bhagalpur

Patna, Aug 30 (UNI) Former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi today condemned the police excess on a youth in Bhagalpur district on Tuesday.

In a release here, Ms Rabri Devi said the incident had proved the callousness of the Nitish Kumar government.

'' How policemen can drag a youth with a motorcycle till he becomes unconscious in a civil society, '' she wondered, saying the incident in Bhagalpur had exposed the ugly face of the state police during the NDA regime.

'' When our party workers staged a protest against the incident in Bhagalpur, policement misbehaved and arrested them. It was a gross violation of the democratic rights of the people, '' she maintained.

'' On one hand, the Nitish Kumar government has failed to check crime in the state, while on the other hand it is suppressing the voice of the people on the issue, '' she remarked.

Earlier, a youth was beaten black and blue by police in Bhagalpur a few days back and later they dragged him with a motorcycle till he became unconscious following his arrest on charge of snatching a gold chain.
