Punjab govt approves Sangrur bypass under NABARD scheme

Chandigarh, Aug 30 (UNI) In order to decongest traffic in Sangrur town, the Punjab government has given the go-ahead for construction of a 24 km road that would bypass the district headquarter town.

This bypass would link Barnala road would Patran road and also Patiala road to Patran road. This road to be constructed under a special scheme of NABARD by PWD (B&R).

Disclosing this here today PWD Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa, said this important road would be from Gaggarpur to Badrukan via Kheri-Kular Khurd, Bharror, Chathe Sekhwan and Ubhewal.

This bypass would be constructed under RIDF Scheme of NABARD at an approximate cost of Rs 11 crore. He said when constructed, the road would emerge as an important one for inter-state vehicular traffic between Punjab and Haryana.

This important bypass road would shorten the distance between Barnala and Patran by 14.7 km. and also between Patiala and Patran by 9.5 km. It would also connect important seven grain markets and seven other villages, benefiting a population of 29,800.

The Minister said the PWD had already initiated an elaborate exercise to identify such important links and missing links that would prove crucial to the development of the state.
