PLR for Port and Dock workers announced in LS
New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) The Centre today announced in the Lok Sabha the Productivity-Linked-Reward (PLR) for 2006-07, for Port and Dock Workers of Major Ports and Dock Labour Boards who are not covered by the Payment of Bonus Act of 1965.
Making a statement on the subject during Zero Hour, Shipping and Road Transport Minister T R Baalu said 66,000 port and dock workers, employees and officers would get a maximum of Rs 6,000 each on or before September 1 this year.
He said the Indian Ports Association had made the computation of PLR for the year 2006-07 as per the agreed performance parameters and methodology and the PLR percetage was arrived at 21.38 per cent, subject to the maximum ceiling of 20 per cent.
In accordance with the new settlement arrived at between the Port Management and the Major federations, PLR for the year 2007-08 was being released on or before September 1, he said.
Mr Baalu said the financial implications on this account would be about Rs 40 crores, but this expenditure would be met by the Major Port Trusts and Dock Labour Boards from their own resources, without budgetary support from the government.
