Orissa to set up six marine Police stations

Bhubaneswar, Aug 30 (UNI) Six marine police stations will be set up in Orissa by the end of this year to keep a close watch on the coast and prevent immigration of outsiders, Home Secretary T K Mishra said here today.

Mr Mishra said the work for the setting up of the marine police stations had already started in Balasore, Paradip, Goaplpur and Puri.

While the government had identified Astaranga as a site for the fifth marine police station, the identification of site for the sixth police station would be made soon, he said.

However, all the marine police stations would start functioning by the end of this year, the Home Secretary said.

The Central government had granted Rs 32 lakh for setting up each police station.

The Coast Guard would impart the training to police personnel in the marine police stations and they would operate under the control of the district Superintendents of Police.

Each police station would operate within a radius of 12 nautical mile, Mr Mishra said.
