Orissa govt serves showcause on suspended DGP

Bhubaneswar, Aug 30 (UNI) The Orissa government today served a showcause notice to suspended Director General of Police(Home Guard) B B Mohanti on the charge of grave misconduct and remained absconding without any leave permission.

State Home Secretary T K Mishra said the government had granted Mr Mohanti 30 days time to reply to the showcause failing which necessary departmental proceedings would be initiated against him.

The state government had suspended Mr Mohanti after he went on hiding following an NBW issued against him by a Jaipur court for abetting his son Bitihitra, convicted and sentenced to seven years jail in Alwar rape case and jumped parole on December 4 last.

The NBW against Mr Mohanti was handed over to the Cuttack District Collector on August 23 last by Rajsthan police but Orissa police had failed to execute it as Mr Mohanti remained elusive.

Police raided several places both inside and outside the state but failed to locate him.

The state government also yesterday framed chargesheet against the senior Orissa cop for not cooperating with the government in executing the NBW and implementing a court order to recover Rs 50,000 as surety he had stood while releasing his son on parole.

The Home Secretary said Mr Mohanti had been charged of proceeding on unauthorised leave to avoid the NBW issued against him. The state government had already taken step to freeze his Bank account to recover the surety money from him as per the direction of a Jaipur court which had asked the State Chief Secretary to recover the amount from him.
