New law soon to protect senior citizen rights: Renuka

Jodhpur, Aug 30 (UNI) A new law would be enacted soon to protect rights of senior citizens as now children who get their parents' property rights would have to be responsible for their upkeep, Union Women and Children Welfare Minister Renuka Choudhary said here today.

Speaking at an inauguration function of old age home Aastha by Navjiban Sansthan, Ms Choudhary said, in the present age of nuclear families, children don't care about their parents and they are left to fend for themselves.

To curb this trend, the centre would bring in a legislation in the next parliament session, she said, adding that the ministry has already prepared the performa of the legislation.

She said whether the parents stay in home or old age homes, it is the responsibility of their children to look after them and bear their expenses.
