MLAs from Srinagar city failed to raise peoples issue, minister

Srinagar, Aug 30 (UNI) Admitting water shortage in the summer capital, Jammu and Kashmir Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Mohammad Dilawar Mir today alleged that the Members of the Legislative Assembly from here had failed to raise the issues of people of the city.

When National Conference (NC) member Mohammad Sayeed Akhoon raised the issue of water shortage in the city during the Zero hour, the minister said the Public Health Engineering department was facing water shortage.

However, he said, people were being provided drinking water from all available sources Mr Akhoon, who was joined by Ali Mohammad Sagar and Mubarak Gul, also from NC from the city, wanted an assurance from the government as was done in case of Jammu city when Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad immediately summoned a meeting last week and sanctioned money to meet the water shortage there.

Mr Mir said water shortage issue was brought to his notice only today.

The city has only one MLA from Cogress while all others are from the NC, the main opposition party in the House.

''I am sorry to say that the MLAs from the city have failed to raise the issue of their people,'' he said and requested them to bring to the notice of the government the problems of the people of the city.

The minister said efforts were being made to overcome the water shortage in the city.
