Srinagar, Aug 30 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today rejected by a voice vote a private members' resolution on providing free ration and exemption from electricity tariff to the people living below poverty line in the State.
The resolution had been moved by National Conference member Sharief-ud-din Shariq on February seven in Jammu session.
However, as the discussion had remained inconclusive then, the member was allowed to continue it in the present session.
Mr Shariq called for an extensive survey of the State to identify the people living below poverty line.
Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister Taj Mohiuddin and Power Minister Nawang Rigzin Zora expressed inability to provide free ration and also exempt electricity tariff to the people living below the poverty line.
As the Ministers did not agree with the resolution, Deputy Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone called for a voice vote on it.
The resolution was then rejected by one voice note.
