Home Ministry deliberates measures for peace on Indo-Nepal border

New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) The Centre today deliberated on the measures to be taken to maintain peace and tranquility on the Indo-Nepal border in view of the Constitution Assembly elections in the neighbouring country scheduled for November 2007.

A high level meeting was held in this regard at the Sashatra Seema Bal Headquarters here. The meeting chaired by Secretary Border Management U N Panjiyar was attended by SSB Director General Tilak Kak and senior officials of the Home Ministry, External Affairs Ministry and Cabinet Secretariate.

Home Secretaries and Director Generals of Police of states having border with Nepal like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim also participated in the meeting.

The meeting unanimously decided that in all the bordering states, a high level committee headed by respective Chief Secretary be constituted having officials of Home Ministries, External Affairs, Cabinet Secretariate, Intelligence Bureau who would take necessary decisions regarding maintaining peace and tranquality in the bordering areas.

The Indo-Nepal border has become sensitive in view of the growth of Maoist activities in the neighbouring countries and naxalism in many of the bordering states of India. Both the countries want to maintain peace and tranquality in the bordering area.
