Elaborate security arrangements for Janmasthami fair in Rajkot

Rajkot, Aug 30 (UNI) In view of the terrorist attack in Hyderabad, the Rajkot police has made elaborate security arrangements to ensure that the eight-day Janmasthami fair, beginning here from September 2, passes off without any untoward incident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Khurshid Ahmed told UNI over the phone that extra forces will be deployed at the venue and a special task force will be entrusted with the security responsibility.

The venue will be divided into six sectors with each sector being overseen by an inspector. Policemen, in civil dress, will be deployed to keep a watch on the people, he said. Three companies of the State Reserve Police (SRP) will be deployed, he added.

Metal detectors will be installed at the four entry points of the fair, the DCP said. The police have also made elaborate security arrangements in the city on September 4 when the ''Rathyatra'' will pass through the city.

The eight-day fair will be inaugurated by Gujarat Finance Minister Vajubhai Vala. Lakhs of people attend the fair annually.
