Crime branch tracks the threat e mail to blow up Orissa Assembly

Bhubaneswar, Aug 30 (UNI) The Orissa crime branch today detained prime suspect S K lenka and another person in connection with an e-mail message to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik threatening to blow up the state Assembly.

The Chief Minister office here had received the e mail written in Hindi on August 20 from one Gagan Pattnaik stating that all preparation had been made to blow up the state Assembly building within a fortnight.

The e mail further mentioned that the materials for blowing up the Assembly building had already been arrived and claimed that majority of the people guarding the Assembly were ''our people'' has Though Director General of Police Amarananda Pattnaik had described the e-mail as ''prank mail'',the state government had ordered a crime branch inquiry into the incident to ascertain the veracity of the threat.

The state police made frantic searches in and around the state Assembly and pressed the anti sabotage team and sniffer dogs to search every inch of the Assembly but failed to get anything.

Crime Branch Inspector General Bijaya Sharma said they had tracked the mail id and the computer through which the e-mail was sent through the service provider and went to the liaison office of a Rourkela abased Ferro Alloys Company and seized a desktop and a laptop.

Two people detained in connection with the incident were being interrogated and the General Manager of the Company from Rourkela is arriving here to help the police in the investigation.

In November 2006 also both the Chief Minister office and the Assembly secretariat had received e-mail message that a plan has been chalked out by a group of professional software engineers to blow up the Assembly and the Chief Minister's office.

The Cyber cell of the crime branch than traced the e-mail sender and found that one Kalpataru Das from Bangalore has sent the e-mail.

The Crime Branch did not gather more information about the incident and closed the matter.
