CPI(M) demonstrates against dismantling of PDS

New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) Rueing the gradual dismantling of the Public Distribution System (PDS), the Delhi state unit of the CPI(M) today held a protest demonstration calling the move as anti-people and anti-poor.

Accusing the government of willfully destroying the PDS system which was the lifeline of the poor and weaker sections of society, the agitators said the move went against its pro-poor 'projected image'.

''With price rise getting past the roof, closing of the PDS system was criminal,'' said a speaker at the rally.

Demanding universalisation of the PDS and issuing ration cards to the 'deprived class' in Delhi, the demonstrators said steps like good quality ration, strict action against black-marketeers, banning futures trading in foodgrains should be implemented to ensure that the poor does not suffer.
