Lucknow, Aug 30 (UNI) A delegation of cooperative banks' representatives led by senior Samajwadi Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh PWD minister Shivpal Singh Yadav today called upon Governor T V Rajeswar alleging political vendetta by the incumbent Mayawati government in trying to amend the Cooperative Act.

The delegation urged the Governor against approving the ordinance related to proposed amendment in the Cooperative Act, party sources said here tonight.

The delegation alleged political vendetta by the Mayawati regime in reducing the term of elected office-bearers of the cooperative bodies from five to two yrs.

It noted that the state government wanted to replace elected representatives with people owing allegiance to the ruling BSP.

Referring to Prof A Vaidyanathan Committee, the delegation said the state government stood eligible for Rs 2,500 crore towards strengthening cooperative institutions in the state, only if such bodies were run by elected managing committees.

The six-member delegation comprised Mr Yadav, Fateh Bahadur Singh, Sheeshpal Singh, Virendra Singh Gangwar, Dhirendra Verma and Papil Manar.

The delegation also handed over a memorandum to Mr Rajeswar in this regard.
