CM dilutes remarks against allies, calls it media hype
Chennai, Aug 30 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi today clarified that he had only warned opposition parties against destabilising the government and accused the media of distorting his speech.
Answering a set of questions, the DMK Chief, referring to reports in a section of the media that he warned the allies for posing threat to the government, said he would not issue warnings and threats to the allies and they were meant for traitors and those in the opposition camp, who tried to destabilise the DMK government.
However, a section of the media had misreported his address at a marriage function here yesterday, in a deliberate bid to create a rift in the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA), but they would not succeed in it, he maintained.
Mr Karunanidhi also disowned the view held by his senior colleague Arcot N Veerasamy, that the DMK should face the next Assembly elections after severing ties with the existing allies, barring the Congress.
He said Mr Veerasamy, out of frustration, had expressed the view that it would be difficult to continue alliance with parties, which ignored and created trouble to the party.
That was Mr Veerasamy's personal view and it was not a decision taken by the party after convening the general council or executive, he added.
