Centre release Rs 97.65 lakh to Meghalaya

Shillong, Aug 30 (UNI) The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has released Rs 97.65 lakh to Meghalaya during 2006-07 under the Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) scheme.

The SJSRY was an urban poverty alleviation programme with the allocation provided to the other North East states also.

The SJSRY aimed at providing gainful employment to the urban unemployed and underemployed poor by encouraging the setting up of self-employment ventures by those who had studied till the 9th standard and also by providing wage employment by utilising their labour for construction of socially and economically useful public assets.
