Cabinet nod for providing flexiblity for women employees

New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) The Cabinet today gave its approval for amending the Factories (Amendment) Bill 2005, providing flexibility for women employees during night hours.

The official proposal to amend Section 66 of the Factories Act 1948 comes in the background of International Labour Organisation Convention, which stipulates against employing women without the distinction of age during night hours in private and public undertakings with certain exception in clearly defined cases.

It would not apply to women holding responsible positions of a managerial or technical character, health and welfare services who were not ordinarily engaged in manual work. India is a signatory to Convention 89.
