Bhooporatam to change political equations in AP: CPM

Tirupati, Aug 30 (UNI) CPI(M) Central Committee member P Madhu said the ongoing second phase of 'Bhooporatam' (land struggle), will change political equations in Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing a press conference here today, he said Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy would have to decide on distributing government land to the landless if he wanted to continue in power.

The struggle was gaining momentum with the TDP and the BJP launching their own land struggles, he added.

Also a Rajya Sabha MP, Mr Madhu urged the government to constitute a Land Commission immediately or distribute lands to the poor.

He alleged the government was not willing to decide on land for the poor though it was earnest in acquiring land for the SEZs.

At least 14 lakh people, whose lands were acquired by the government for projects like irrigation and power, were still not rehabilitated, he alleged.
