BHEL bags Rs 1,990 cr contract in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has won a Rs 1,990 crore contract for the supply and installation of steam generator and steam turbine packages at the upcoming Vallur Thermal Power project at Ennore, Tamil Nadu, Involving two units of 500 MW each, the contract for the greenfield power project has been placed on BHEL by NTPC-Tamil Nadu Energy Company Limited (NTECL), a joint venture company of NTPC and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB), a BHEL spokesperson said here today.

Being set up under the Centre's Mega Power Project policy, the project is targeted for synchronisation during the 11th Plan, and will add nearly 24 million units every day to the grid on commissioning.

The contract, won after outbidding leading European equipment suppliers, comes close on the heels of three mega contracts for the supply and installation of seven sets of 500 MW each at Jhajjar STPS (3x500 MW), Koderma TPS (2x500MW) and Durgapur Steel TPS (2x500 MW).

BHEL's scope of work involves design, engineering manufacture, supply, and erection and commissioning of steam generators, turbine generators, electrostatic precipitators and associated auxiliaries, besides state-of-the-art controls and instrumentation system.
