Women personnel in police to rise to 10 pc: Renuka Chowdhury
New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury today said soon the number of women in central security forces would be increased to ten per cent.
After her pitching with the Home Ministry for raising the share of women personnel in security forces to 33 per cent, Home Minister Shivraj Patil assured her of enhancing their number to ten per cent, Ms Chowdhury told mediapersons on the sidelines of a function this morning.
''The assurance was given to me by Mr Patil when I met him recently after having written to him earlier on the issue.'' ''Earlier, we had approached the Home Ministry for raising the number of women personnel in the police force to 33 per cent,'' she informed the press. ''But the matter was 'resolved' when I recently met the Home Minister who agreed on increasing their share to ten per cent,'' she added.
Mr Patil said it was difficult to meet the level of 33 per cent as even the women weren't coming forward in such large numbers, she added.
