Tripura women block traffic over water shortage
Agartala, Aug 29: An irate group of women today held up traffic on Arundhutinagar area in the western part of Agartala to protest the alleged non-supply of drinking water for the past one month by the Public Health Department.
Police said the women blocked the road during peak time and traffic movement was stopped for about two hours.
However, the blockade was lifted after assurance of regular water supply, police added.
Tripura faces acute water crisis every year, as water basins and sources become dry due to inadequate recharge of ground water table.
However, water harvesting methods are not implemented in the state despite heavy monsoon showers.
