New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) India today said it was aware that Pakistan High Commissions in other countries were spreading anti-India propaganda and that instances of these Missions facilitating terrorists had also come to notice.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee told the Lok Sabha that the issue of the involvement of the Pakistan High Commissions in anti-India propaganda had been taken up with the governments concerned.

He said the government was also aware that concerns had been expressed by some countries that some areas and organisations within Pakistan provided sanctuaries to terrorists for cross-border activities.

The Minister said the government hoped that the Joint Anti-Terror Mechanism, which held its first meeting on March 6 in Islamabad, would help in implementing the January 6, 2004, assurance by Pakistan that no part of its territory would be used for anti-India activities, including terrorism.

The Joint Anti-Terror Mechanism was conceived at a meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf at Havana in September 2006 on the sidelines of the NAM Summit.

At the first meeting, both sides had agreed to exchange specific informattion for helping investigations related to terrorist activities and also prevention of violence and terrorist acts in the two countries.
