Nitish govt's decision on Bhagalpur riot historic - Azad

Patna, Aug 29 (UNI) Deputy leader of Janta Dal (U) in Bihar Legislative Council Prof Aslam Azad today welcomed the acceptance of Justice N N Singh Commission report on Bhagalpur riot by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

He said constitution of a fresh commission to probe the riot was a historic decision of the state government.

Mr Azad said Mr Kumar's decision encouraged the minorities and also discouraged those involved in communal violence.

Appreciating the decision to give pension and rehabilitation package to the Bhagalpur riot victims on the pattern of 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims, he said it would definitely be remembered and cherished for ever.

Mr Kumar fulfilled his commitment by working on the agenda on which the party fought election, he added.
