Investors to purchase land at market rate in Punjab: CM

Jalandhar, Aug 29 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today made it clear the state government would not acquire land for setting up of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) or other projects in the state.

''For setting up of projects, state government will provide other facilities to the investors but they have to purchase the land at the market rate,'' Mr Badal told media persons after inaugurating the Punjab Hockey League on the occasion of National Sports Day, which was celebrated here today in memory of Hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.

On the issue of removing of turban for security check in America, the Chief Minister said, as Centre is the competent authority to deal with issues originating in other countries, Punjab government would soon talk to the Union government in this regard.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister distributed sports equipments to nearly 5,000 players of the state. As many as 100 hockey goal keeper kits, 3,000 hockey sticks and balls, 1,000 footballs, 500 basketballs and 500 volley balls were distributed to the sports persons. As a part of celebrations, an exhibition hockey match was also played between Olympian Prithpal Singh XI and Olympian Udham Singh XI.
