High Court orders arrest of Congress MP Adhir Choudhury

Kolkata, Aug 29 (UNI) Calcutta High Court today ordered the police to arrest Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Choudhury in connection with a twin murder case.

Earlier, the MP had been acquitted by a lower court, official sources said.

The two-judge bench, presided over by Justice Amit Talukdar, issued the ruling on a petition of the prosecution challenging the acquittal order of the lower court.

The bench directed the police to immediately arrest Mr Choudhury and produce before the court.

Mr Choudhury and his wife were arrested in connection with a twin murder case in the Murdishabad district headquarters two years ago.

However, Mr Choudhury's wife was granted anticipatory bail due to her ailment.

Later, Mr Choudhury, a Lok Sabha member from Baharampur, was also granted bail and acquitted by the lower court.
